 General FAQ for Potential Producers

Q: Who is Rescue Rue for?

A: Rescue Rue is a musical fairytale for kids and kids at heart—particularly for anyone who’s known the love of a dog or rescue animal! We say the show is for 3 and up, with our target being elementary school-aged audiences. But we’ve had kids as young as 3 come to the show and enjoy the puppets and dance numbers, and older siblings have enjoyed it as well. Not to mention adults— some of whom are surprised they’re moved to tears!

Q: Is this show suitable for school groups, community, and/or professional productions?

A: With flexible cast and band sizes, as well as the ability to do the show with or without puppets, and minimal sets… not to mention the social and educational lessons of the show (see below for more)… it’s a perfect choice for any school, community, or professional theater group.

Q: Speaking of which, what size is the cast/band?

A: The show is flexible on casting both in size and gender-identity.  The cast can be as small as 6 performers and as large as 14 performers, even more if the ensemble tracks are shared amongst different actors instead of multi-tracked to a core cast.

Band: For NYMF (as at NYCTF) we utilized a minimal 3-piece band consisting of piano, bass, drums. This being said, the pit may be reduced to just a piano and is also expandable beyond 3 pieces as it was Off-Broadway (5 pieces, with doubling).

Q: What are the themes of the show?

Rescue Rue is a show about finding one’s place in the world and keeping up your head held high despite the curveballs life throws along the way. It’s also a show about adoption, and can help start a conversation surrounding why people choose to adopt and the importance of adoption.

Q: Can I see video?

A: If you’re thinking about doing the show, please reach out for a link to a private archival video sample.

For everyone else, a professionally filmed studio production is in post and will be available late 2023!

Q: Who do we contact if we’re interested in presenting Rescue Rue?

A: At this time, please reach out to Stacey at ChineseMotherLLC@gmail.com.

Q: Is Rescue Rue really based on a true story?

A: Yes! The real Rue is really a rescue pup, brought from West Virginia to New York by a rescue group.
